The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Monday suspended party MLC K Kavitha with immediate effect, citing her alleged “anti-party activities” and remarks that the leadership claimed were damaging the organisation’s reputation.

The decision was taken by party president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), the BRS announced through an official statement on social media platform X.

“The party leadership is taking this matter seriously as the recent behaviour and ongoing anti-party activities of party MLC Smt. K. Kavitha are damaging the BRS. Party President Sri K. Chandrasekhar Rao has taken a decision to suspend Smt. K. Kavitha from the party with immediate effect,” the post read.

The suspension comes a day after Kavitha reacted sharply to the Telangana government’s decision to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Kavitha defended her father and BRS chief, KCR, saying he would emerge “spotless, like a pearl washed clean.” However, she alleged that the controversy surrounding the project was the result of a conspiracy by senior BRS leaders Harish Rao and Santosh Rao, accusing them of colluding with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

“If KCR’s image is tainted in the Kaleshwaram issue, the reason is Harish Rao and Santosh Rao. Despite several conspiracies against me by them, I endured… Behind Harish and Santosh Rao, it is certainly Revanth Reddy,” she said.

Sharpening her attack further, Kavitha added: “I am not a puppet to play to the tunes of the BJP or the Congress. KCR never thinks about food or money, but false accusations are being hurled at him. People will remember the Kaleshwaram project for 200 years. It is tragic that a great leader like KCR is now facing a CBI probe.”

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has constituted a commission led by former Supreme Court judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose to investigate alleged irregularities, corruption, and misuse of public funds in the construction of the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages under the project.
